Gareth Bill is a true Kansan. Born on July 4, 1981, he grew up in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City, and spent the first eighteen years of his life in it. Gareth comes from a distinguished political background: his father and grandfather were both elected Kansas representatives who worked hard to advance Kansas, making notable positive impacts on the areas of education and fiscal responsibility.
Gareth attended The Pennsylvania State University, earning a degree in finance and graduating in May 2003. During his time at Penn State, Gareth received multiple awards for leadership. After he graduated from Penn State, he worked for ten years at JP Morgan in New York City, rising from a financial analyst to the manager of a hedge fund from 2010-2013. In his early years at JP Morgan, he also attended Columbia Business School, earning an MBA in 2006. Gareth graduated in the top 5% of his class at Columbia Business School, earning Dean’s Honors and Distinction and was also selected by his classmates as the MBA Student Speaker at Columbia Business School’s recognition ceremony.
Gareth met his lovely wife Katherine in New York City and they got married in a simple ceremony back in Overland Park, Kansas. The couple moved back to Overland Park in early 2013, hoping to raise a family, and now have two wonderful children, Brady and Megan.
Gareth’s father tragically passed away in 2014 as a result of leukemia, but his legacy remains. Gareth promised his father to continue his hard work for the state of Kansas, and he intends to do so as the Governor of Kansas.
Gareth’s home is Kansas, and he is committed to our great state. He knows Kansas values, and he embraces them. Kansans are frustrated with the government right now - as well they should be - and Gareth is determined to keep the gridlock of the federal government out of his state administration. He knows that Kansans want something better: a better economy, a better education system, a better future. As a fellow Kansan, he wants the same.
Gareth will bring his unique skill set as a businessman to Kansas. His years of dedication and excellence led to him becoming one of the youngest and most well-regarded hedge fund managers in the country, and he will bring the same intelligence, the same drive, and the same unending perseverance to Kansas as its newest Governor.
He understands the struggle of middle-class Kansans - hardworking men and women who are trying to thrive, but all too often do not - and he is resolved to better their situation. The solution comes in three parts. First is promoting economic opportunity. Kansans have heard talk of an economic recovery for years, but still find it difficult to find jobs and pay their bills. Gareth Bill will do whatever is in his power to provide actual economic opportunities. Second is business development. Kansas needs a new generation of small businesses and a new generation of small business owners, and Gareth Bill will work towards that. Finally comes a better education system. Whether at the primary, secondary, or post-secondary levels, Kansans deserve more. Whether that means making better use of allocated resources or increasing available resources, Gareth Bill will never cease his efforts to improve the Kansas education system. By promoting economic opportunity, aiding business development, and improving the public education system as Governor, Gareth Bill will reinvigorate the middle class, uplift those who are struggling, and lead Kansas boldly forward into a brighter future.
Kansas deserves a fresh start. Kansas deserves Gareth Bill.
